Rise, a NYC parent advocacy organization, is seeking a Policy Coordinator to support Rise’s shift to community organizing to reverse NYC’s over-investment in child welfare and under-investment in communities.
Two new bills related to child welfare have been proposed in the NY State Senate, sponsored by Senator Velmanette Montgomery (now retired). The passage of these bills would help to reduce some of the harm of the child welfare system in New York.
The 2021 Rise & Shine Parent Leadership Program launched online in early February, beginning with a focus on community building using restorative justice circles. In our first weeks, we built our connection and relationships, centered our values, developed a community agreement, shared self-care strategies and established our “buddy system” of peer support.

Founded in 2005, Rise has an annual budget of $1.2 million, a staff of 12 and 9 part-time parent contributors.
