This training will discuss when parent advocacy started in NYC, how the movement has moved forward and where are we today. A panel of Parent Advocates will share how the family policing system impacted them, their family and their journey in advocacy. They will share their experiences as advocates and leaders in their community, in addition to how they became a part of the parent advocacy movement. Advocates will reflect on concepts of surveillance, disproportionality, peer support and community care.
Parent Advocate Panel: Maya Marshall, Elliot Williams, Albert Shepard and Leatha Jennings
This free online training will be hosted by Rise. It is open to the public but most relevant to parents impacted by the child welfare system.
