Rise invites parents and Parent Advocates impacted by the child welfare system to join us for a Community Conversation about how we can better meet the needs of families impacted by the child welfare system.
We are beginning to explore what it would look like to abolish the child welfare system. Rise is learning that abolition is a vision and a strategy to cultivate hope about society, to begin re-imagining community-based care and, in the words of Ruthie Wilson Gilmore, “to change one thing: everything.”
We invite you to share your experiences and perspectives on building safe, just and healing-centered communities focused on the well being of children and families — without child welfare system surveillance and involvement. This safe space is for parents to share what they believe is needed to reduce the harm caused by the current child welfare system and eliminate its connections to other systems (i.e. education, medical, mental health) that surveil and punish families.
Please note that signing up for this community conversation means that you are agreeing to be recorded. Recordings will not be shared with the public but may be viewed by Rise’s staff and partner organizations for the purposes of collecting information for our ongoing Participatory Action Research project.
Registrants will receive the Zoom link within 24 hours of the event.
